1. Providing a safe environment
We recognise that safeguarding is the responsibility of every member of staff who has involvement with people.
1.1Paid staff and volunteers will:
a) operate employment and supervision procedures that ensure that safeguarding is given a high priority, including interviewing all potential staff and volunteers, and asking for two appropriate referees;
b) ensure CRB checks are carried out for staff and volunteers who will have substantial contact people;
c) ensure that each member of staff is familiar with the safeguarding policy and has received training in basic safeguarding awareness as part of induction;
d) source or provide appropriate continuing training on safeguarding issues;.

- treat people with respect and dignity, providing a good example in behaviour, action and language;
- avoid spending excessive amounts of time alone with individuals should a private meeting be essential, other staff should be informed of the meeting time and location;
- endeavour to promote respectful attitudes among people and challenge inappropriate language;
- never engage in sexually provocative banter or in inappropriate touching of any kind;
- be aware that actions, words and gestures can be misinterpreted, no matter how well-intentioned.
